Sheen Strong

You have an hour to give.

Thirty days to build the daily Holy Hour — the discipline Venerable Fulton J. Sheen kept for sixty years and asked of everyone who would listen. We begin together on November 10.

Take your place

Free, and it stays free. Enter your name and city and we will light your flame on the map below. You will hear from us before we begin.

We will email you about the thirty days and nothing else. Your city appears on the map; your name and email never do.

Your flame is lit.

Find your city on the map below. You are expected on November 10.

Between now and then, one thing worth doing: decide when your hour will be, and tell someone you have decided.

1 person has taken a place. Thirty days begin November 10.

The fire is spreading.

Every flame is a city where someone has committed to the daily Holy Hour.

What the thirty days are.

Sheen made the Holy Hour every day of his priesthood and said the reason was simple: we all have an hour we can give to the Lord, and it asks only for discipline.

This is not a course about prayer. It is thirty days of praying, with something from Sheen waiting each morning and a record of your own kept only by you.

Every day

A passage and a word

Sheen's own words, quoted exactly and cited, with a short commentary to carry you into the silence. Read in three minutes; pray for the rest.

Every day

Your own record

Did you make the hour, and what did the Lord say to you? Two questions, asked the same way each day. No one reads your answers but you.

Every week

One hour before the Blessed Sacrament

Pray wherever you are the rest of the week. Once a week, if you can reach a church, make the hour where He is truly present.

Every week

A word from Dr. Howard

Four short talks — on beginning, on dryness, on what is happening in you, and on where this goes after the thirtieth day.

Two ways to begin.

Sheen held the hour as the goal from the first day. He also allowed that it need not be made before the Blessed Sacrament, and that there is flexibility in how it is kept. So there are two honest ways in, and you choose at the start.

Build to the hour

Begin at fifteen minutes and climb. By the thirtieth day you are making the full hour, and it has become the shape of your day rather than an addition to it.

Begin with the hour

For those already praying it, or ready to answer Sheen's appeal as he made it. A full hour from day one, and a record of every day you keep it.

Who is asking.

I am Peter Howard. I have spent my life on Fulton Sheen — his theology, his cause, and the hour that held it all together.

I am not asking you to admire him. I am asking you to do what he did, beginning on November 10, alongside everyone whose flame you see above. I will be making the hour with you.
